Sziget Festival 2026 runs from 11 August at 08:00 to 16 August at 12:00 on Óbuda Island (Óbudai-sziget), Május 9. park, Budapest. The Danube island venue draws international travellers, with around half of attendees coming from outside Hungary and more than 100 nationalities represented. From Budapest airport to Óbuda Island
Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) is the main gateway and effectively the airport for fly-in Sziget traffic. It is about 28 km southeast of Óbuda Island, roughly 35 minutes by car in normal traffic, but the transfer crosses the metropolitan area. Options include the 100E Airport Express to the centre, 200E to Kőbánya-Kispest for metro M3, miniBUD coach transfers, taxis, Bolt, and rail via metro M2 to Batthyány tér then HÉV H5 to Filatorigát, about a 10-minute walk from the entrance.
Flying home after Sziget closes
The main fly-home wave is Sunday 16 August, after the programme runs into Sunday morning and the campsite closes at 12:00. Saturday 15 August is a secondary wave for day-ticket holders and early leavers. Expect BUD and the routes from Óbuda to be busier than usual, with road access around the island prone to congestion on the final morning. Arrive earlier than you normally would, and check the live BUD departures board before leaving for the airport.
Sziget airport transfer tips
Build a buffer between the island and BUD, especially if travelling during the Monday 10 August and Tuesday 11 August arrival peak or the Sunday departure wave. Use Filatorigát for HÉV H5 access because the H-bridge is closed to pedestrians and cyclists; the K-bridge is the main entrance. Keep luggage manageable, and recheck airport boards before starting your transfer.
